It looks like Metro is in the process of survielence cameras in the actual Metro train cars. I Metro Camhave only seen this in one of two cars is it is definatly just a trial. I am not sure if they are even connected back to anything. I am just happy I don’t have the job of reviewing those tapes. The only thing more boring than riding on the Metro would be having to watch other people having to ride on the Metro.DSC00255.JPG

I think I have come across the most perfect diet yet. The only problem with it is that it vending machinecan become expensive. Anyhow my new diet is based upon the vending machine down the hall from me. It is filled with tempting and fattening treats. Towards the end of the day the machine is extra tempting, and I find myself rounding up my spare change and seeing what I can get. I am generally hungry and looking for my snack… but I don’t really need to eat.

This is where the broken vending machine comes in! The plan is simple… Instead of the machine giving me tasty treats I request from it, it denies me and punishes me by keeping my money. Wonderful!

The worst case of this was last week. I am a big fan of Munchos. Big fan. Anyhow I go to buy one bag and it gets stuck halfway. Figuring I might as well try again and get an extra bag for tomorrow instead of leaving empty handed. Well that didn’t work out… Anyhow I got so pissed at the machine that completely forgot that I was hungry, and even if I was it didn’t matter because I didn’t have anymore singles…

Stupid Machine Diet!!!

I have been living without a decent pair of sunglasses. I had my previous pair, a nice pair Briko Starter Sunglass w/ Thrama HC Active 4000 Lensof Bolle glasses, for 5 or 6 years. I was out on a ride and somehow dropped/lost them when I stop for a break. Lesson learned: never stop!

Anyhow after getting stung by a be flying into me while riding, I decided it would be a good idea to get another pair. I got a cheap $5 pair. They only sort of work. They protect my eyes from wind and sun… and flying insects. The problem is that they do nothing to protect against glare. Sometimes the make it tougher to see. You end up seeing a reflection of your eye in the lens. Not so helpful.

I just ordered a pair of Briko sunglasses. Briko is pretty well known for making edgy, top end athletic sunglasses. Sort of like Oakley used to be. Anyhow Nashbar had them on sale for $34, so I couldn’t pass it up. I will report back on how well they work.

I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, but this is supposidly a great documentry about growing up in poor rural areas. It was on the great PBS series Frontline. The best part is that it is available online to watch!

It looks like there is finally a bar / club in DC that is appropriate for sciencey Nerds… maybe. It at least looks like they have lots of fun beers, which is nice. I would rather pay a lot for a good beer than a cocktail. They are much less spilly:

Passersby might wonder what lurks behind the heavy doors and etched glass windows — a place where men and women in lab coats gather to discuss Newtonian physics or string theory? A debating society for biologists?

Not exactly — it’s downtown Washington’s newest lounge and nightspot, but one that owner Steve Maguire hopes is a little more cerebral than most.

One of the best things about the Oral-B toothbrush, besides the fact that it gets you Oral-B Toothbrushmouth squeaky clean, is that they have been nice and kept many parts interchangable. This means the update brush heads they just released work on my older toothbrush.

Oral-B also sells all of the parts for their system seperatly. You can buy a second charger or a newer power handle. I was able to buy a new Oral-B Sonic Complete handle and it the charger from my older Oral-B 3D.
So what does this all mean?

  1. If you are already an Oral-B owner, it is really cheap to upgrade to a newer system. Since almost all of the handles use the same charger and brush heads you can simply buy a new handle. Instead of having to an entirly new setup you can simply upgrade the parts you need.
  2. You can switch to a Sonic Complete style handel and still use the same charger. It is much cheaper to buy a sonic handle and bursh headsd (~$65) as opposed to $120 or so.
  3. Another great thing is that they are always coming up with new brush heads that work with the older burshes. This is great, it allows you to use some of the latest technology without having to do any dramatic upgrades.

Oral-B fully supports this. You can buy all of their parts directly from them here:
