I gave Illustrator a try again. Drawing using vectors is fun because everything comes out very crisp. It is very different from regular drawing where everything is not as neat.
The Tutorials for Illustrator that UMass put up are great:
Here is one of my trademark birds… more to follow.

I just got the photoshop cs4 trial, and it is tons of fun drawing on my Wacom Bamboo. I think they upgraded the paintbrush tool or something, because it is way better. Here is a quick sketch. Note that I am not a better drawer:

When you buy a new Mac you get $100 off a printer. I got a Canon MP480 which is one of those scanner and printer combos. Here is a little water color I scanned in:

Every year there is a Arts & Crafts show sponsored by our local alternative paper, the Washington City Paper, which is called the Crafty Bastard. It is held down in Adams Morgan and in order to get there from the Metro, you have to walk right past our apartment. In order to capitalize on the fact that all of DC’s craft buying public would be walking by our apartment I came up with the grand idea of opening my own arts stand.
The city paper put up lots of signs advertising Crafty Bastard, so I took advantage of their advertising work and setup a little table in front of our condo called, Crappy Bastard. Pretty good play on words, huh?!
I made a bunch of little notecards, each hand drawn and watercolored. I got lots of people who loved the title, a few loved the notecards, and unfortunately, no one who bought anything. I was trying to sell four cards for $5. Next time I think I will just try to sell cards individually for $1.

Well, my cunning plan to get rich selling hand made notecards didn’t exactly work. I will give details on that in a bit. However the benefit to everyone is that I will scan and PDF them. Just print these out and you are good to go!
